The National Research Council (CNR) is the largest public research institution in Italy. Founded in 1923, CNR’s mission is to perform research in its own Institutes, to promote innovation and competitiveness of the national industrial system, to promote the internationalization of the national research system, to provide technologies and solutions to emerging public and private needs, to advice Government and other public bodies, and to contribute to the qualification of human resources.
CNR participates in OpenUP project with two Institutes: the Institute for Research on Population and Social Policies (IRPPS) and the Institute of Information Science and Technologies (ISTI).
The Institute for Research on Population and Social Policies (IRPPS) is an Interdisciplinary Research Institute that conducts studies on demographic and migration issues, welfare systems and social policies, on policies regarding science, technology and higher education, evaluation, on the relations between science and society, as well as on the creation of, access to and dissemination of knowledge and information technology. In OpenUP IRPPS will lead the Projected Pilot Study No 2: Open Peer Review for Research Data.
The Institute of Information Science and Technologies (CNR-ISTI), the largest Italian institute in ICT, and is organized in 16 laboratories, committed to producing scientific excellence and playing an active role in technology transfer. ISTI group conducts research and development activities on the definition of algorithms, techniques, models and methods addressing aspects such as acquisition, integration, storage, analysis, indexing, provision, and presentation of digital information (e.g. text documents, videos, images, scientific data) across different scientific and industrial application domains. In OpenUP ISTI will lead the Task 3.5: Peer-reviewing the Research Flow.
